Decked canoes have a long history dating back to the late 1800s and henry rushton's decked sailing canoes. before modern decked canoes, paddlers who wanted to take longer touring trips had the choice between a canoe or a kayak.. The wee robbie plans now include the decked and open versions in one set of plans. you don't have to be small to paddle a wee robbie. it can handle up to 250 ibs. with ease. the fellow in the wee robbie in the picture to the right is 6' 6" and weighs 225.. Jim, good point. i am surprised with the paucity of plans or kits for a design-built decked canoe in the solo tripping style. in that regard it would be easier to find a 17 foot open canoe hull design that approximated the waterline shape of better known decked canoes (sea wind, monarch, loon, sea-1) and add the decks and a 7 foot open cockpit (rudder, controls, deck outfitting), with room for.
New kayak dvd launched if there is one thing we have learned over the past 15 years is that people who used the dvds with their canoe plans as their guide, had a very successful, tension free experience while building.. The deck helps protect against rougher conditions while the large, open cockpit allows for easier access to gear and easy mounting/dismounting of the canoe. a decked canoe can also be portaged like a traditional canoe.. Please note that this cd is sent free with each canoe plan and does not need to be ordered separately if ordering a canoe plan from this web site. however, if you do want to order the cd only, go to the catalogues & manuals page. (please note that the cost of the cd is not refundable if you order canoe plans later)..
