I've seen the mast step in the approximate spot that the bow seat is, but you're putting a rig on a boat that is a bit longer. another issue is the lateen rig of the sunfish, not a problem, but it does carry some sail forward of the mast.. The rig is easily assembled to the canoe and easily disassembled for storage or paddling. the only part perma nently attached to the canoe is the mast step, a block of wood with a hole drilled in it to hold the mast butt. it is epoxied to the bottom of the canoe and in no way interferes with normal paddling..
