Boat Bilge Pump Fuse Keeps Blowing

2007 rinker captiva 192 bilge pump keeps blowing inline fuse (3 amp - is that the right size?) the second the pump is turned on. i had previously bypassed the float switch so that it is only on the manual switch on the dash.. One of my bilge pumps keeps blowing fuses when the switch is in the automatic mode. the on mode its doesn blow the fuse but doesn't work either.. If it keeps blowing fuses frequently, you may be using a fuse that's too small to handle the job. also make sure that you clean out the strainer of your bilge pump regularly. if too much debris builds up, it can cause a strain on power and cause a fuse to blow and could overheat the motor of the bilge pump..

When your boat was built, they laid the keep, then laid the bilge pump,, electrical, and plumbing. after that they laid the engine, and then the boats top deck. there are no easy ways or secret panels to remove when trying to access the old bilge pump. that being said, lets just assume you can not reach the old bilge pump.. Re: stuck rule bilge pump blowing fuses? first rule if fuse blows, take the pump apart and clear the carp out of the strainer, and free off the impeller, they will pull off the shaft, and then you will find all kinds of fibre's causing the problem, hook them out with a fine screwdriver.. If you bilge pumps are "wired directly to the battery bank" their wiring should be easy enough to trace and check out. my guess is your bilge pump is either frozen or shorted out, blowing the fuse. is the second pump working or has it failed as well?.
